David's research focuses on the legitimacy of authoritarian regimes, the institutional architecture of authoritarian states, and the role of nationalism in sustaining or challenging authoritarian rule. His primary empirical focus is on China, though his interests extend to authoritarian resilience and democratization processes across East Asia. Prior to attending Rutgers, David earned a B.A. in Philosophy and an M.P.A. from New York University, and an M.A. in Asian Studies from the George Washington University.
