  • Jackie Hankard

Jackie Hankard is a second year UNMA student who has had the privilege of being the Graduate Assistant at The Rutgers Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life for visiting scholar Professor Jonathan Dekel-Chen. Her role at the Bildner Center was to design and populate a virtual exhibit with Professor Dekel-Chen’s guidance and collaborate with filmmakers, archivists and librarians at Rutgers and other institutions to find content suitable for the exhibit. The exhibit is titled “Jewish Agriculturalism in the Garden State” and it explores the rich Jewish farming history in New Jersey and abroad. The virtual exhibit features first hand accounts from longtime residents and alumni of Rutgers of what life was like for displaced Jewish people in New Jersey after World War 2. Ms. Hankard’s interest in the subject was sparked by her work with the nonprofit “Anne Frank Los Angeles” as the lead communications contributor. AFLA designs educational programs for students in the Los Angeles area to learn more about the Holocaust and to promote Anne Frank’s legacy. Jackie is grateful for the opportunity to learn more about Jewish history, and hopes you can tune in to the exhibit’s virtual launch on Thursday October 21. To learn more, you can visit the Bildner Center’s website to sign up for the event.
