In the last year Michael has visited Indonesia twice, spending over 6 weeks in Bali to learn the culture of Indonesia, more specifically Bali. During his time there he gave 2 presentations, 1 in Bahasa Indonesia, “Investasi Penting: Kemitraan Olahraga di Bali” (Important Investment: Sports Partnerships in Bali), and 1 presentation to a class of law students from Universitas Ngura Rai about the importance studying and teaching sports law as Indonesia emerges onto the international athletics stage in prominent ways. In addition to the presentations Michael volunteered as a speaker for APBIPA BALI / Pusat Bahasa Universitas Ngura Rai “Simultaneous Interpreting Level 1 (ENG > IND)” training program, and coached 6 practice sessions to youth aged 6-12 from PS Suslia Bali. By forging relationships with the National Committee of Sport (KONI), the Green School, Ngura Rai University, PS Suslia Bali, and Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha he hopes to build robust, win-win, educational-athletic partnerships throughout Indonesia that grow the relationship between the two countries, forward Indonesia’s Olympic goals, and help Indonesian youth gain access to quality higher education opportunities in the United States. On top of his international pursuits, Michael is an active member of the United Nations Association of the United States of America, attending both the Global Engagement Summit in January, and the Leadership Summit in June.
