- Bio:
Volkan Tibet Gur is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at Rutgers University, specializing in International Relations and Political Economy. His research examines how geopolitical and environmental risks shape state and firm behavior, with a focus on territorial disputes, energy politics and climate change, and corporate political activity. His dissertation, Three Essays in International Politics of Energy Resources and Maritime Disputes, investigates how domestic political dynamics and energy market conditions influence the military escalation of territorial disputes.
Tibet’s work combines large-scale computational text analysis, innovative survey experiments, and cross-national time-series data to study resource-related territorial clashes and the strategic foundations of rising corporate involvement in global politics. His research has appeared in Economics & Politics and Turkish Studies. At Rutgers, Tibet has taught courses including Introduction to International Relations, Oil and International Politics, and Strategy in International Relations.
