How did you decide on your major?
I knew coming in to Rutgers that I wanted to pursue a career in government, I just was not sure what that looked like, so I chose political science to immerse myself in that field.
What is it about your chosen field (and the department) that appeals to you?
I admire the structure of the U.S. government - ranging from local municipalities to the federal decision makers, something that I have taken immense interest in is the legal aspect that construes the actions of actors in government.
Do you have a favorite class/professor within your major?
I had two favorite classes, and one favorite professor. My constitutional law class, as well as my public policy formation class, were both large parts of my interest in pursuing a BA in political science. My favorite professor has been Professor Carney-Waterton, who I have taken multiple classes with.
What are your favorite academic experiences outside of your major?
My favorite academic experience was writing my honors thesis senior year. Although it was for the political science department, I was able to shift my thesis to my constitutional interests and explore the expansion of presidential power in the twenty first century. I earned High honors for this project.
What are your other Rutgers activities?
I was a member of Sigma Pi fraternity at Rutgers, engaged in multiple legal/political internships, and actively participated in community service and intramural sports.
What are your hopes and plans following graduation?
I am fortunate to be attending Seton Hall School of Law as a Distinguished Scholar in the fall 2020. I attribute this career path to the development that I experienced in my political science courses, especially under the supervision of Professor Carney-Waterton and Professor Wollenberg.
What are your recommendations of how to get the most out of Rutgers to the class of 2024?
I think it is important to explore different types of subjects early on. I think it is also incredibly important to enjoy your time in college and savor it.
