Synopsis: This course examines the formation of Pakistan; it's political history; Pakistan's struggle with democracy and the over – involvement of its military in the political and economic sphere. Key topics: Democracy and authoritarianism; Why has democracy failed in Pakistan? Internal and external factors responsible for the democratic failure; the role of Islam in the Pakistani society? These are some of the questions that we will be explored over the course of the semester
