Bio

Ecaterina Locoman is a PhD candidate in Political Science at Rutgers University. Her research focuses on foreign policy making and diplomacy with a primary regional focus on Central and Eastern Europe. In her dissertation, Ecaterina explores why post-Communist states have followed divergent foreign policy paths after 1991, some joining the Western economic and security institutions, and others oscillating between Russia and the West. She has conducted field research in Ukraine and Moldova, which included archival research in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Kiev and in Chisinau, as well as interviews with former Presidents, Prime Ministers, Ministers of Foreign Affairs and diplomats in both capitals. She is the recipient of several grants and fellowships, including the Civil Society Scholar Awards and the Doctoral Fellows Program, from Open Society Foundations, and the Rutgers University and Louis Bevier Fellowship.
