B.A. from Swarthmore College and Ph.D. from Yale University

He taught previously at the University of Pennsylvania. From 2003 to 2006 Blair served as Executive Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He served earlier as Dean of the Social and Behavioral Sciences, Chair of the Department of Economics, and Director of the Bureau of Economic Research.
