Synopsis: The goal of this course is to introduce students to the strategies of international relations, both from a theoretical and a practical approach. One of the main questions posed in this course is what tools do nation states have at their disposal for maximizing their own national interests. Key topics will include those pertaining to the use of force and military strategy, cooperation and alliance building through international organizations, mediation and diplomacy, as well as policies on nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, and whether terrorism has become a strategy of international relations.
